This vibrant piece invites viewers to experience Javanese batik through a modern lens. While it isn't a traditional batik, it draws inspiration from the flowing, organic shapes and vivid colours characteristic of the centuries-old textile art. The word "batik" originates from two Javanese terms: "amba" (broad) and "titik" (dots), referring to the intricate process of applying wax and dye to create detailed patterns.
 
Kei Putri, an emerging Indonesian artist based in London, reimagines traditional batik techniques with a contemporary twist, infusing bold colours and fluid, abstract forms. By playing with movement and curves, she breathes new life into an art form that spans generations, bridging Indonesia's cultural legacy with modern aesthetics. These designs are hand-painted on silk, and have been framed and exhibited as prints to highlight their artistic value beyond fabric.
 
Batik is a significant part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, symbolising the nation’s identity on the global stage. In 2009, UNESCO recognised Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, further cementing its importance as a cultural treasure.
